Thanks To The BizNik Crew
Here I Go Again. That's actually the title of an old Whitesnake song. Did I just age myself? For those of you out there that remember the hair metal band of the 1980's, great, for the rest of you - please ignore the reference to that decade! For those that loved that time period due to the girls with big hair or the dudes with even bigger hair, great. For those that lived it, even better. For those that have no idea what I'm talking about, just keep reading and don't mind the idle chatter of another time and decade.
The first order of business is to give a big shout out to the BizNik crew - the people that inspired me to write another blog. I have few blogs floating around in cyberspace these days, as do the millions of other bloggers, but this one I will dedicate to purely writing of things that hopefully won't get political, scandalous, or risque. I don't do that on my other blogs either, but I wanted to say that in the first blog posting. This is of course so I could break my own manifesto of blog #1 later on!
If you want to find out more about BizNik - just go to that link above. It's a really fast growing group of very knowledgable people who mostly live and thrive in the great northwest or Seattle area. I seem to be the only member of the group (site) that is from the wide open plains of the midwest or middle of nowhere called St. Louis, MO. Honestly, it's probably not the middle of nowhere to many that live here, but for someone like me, that has been everywhere and lived on both coasts - I beg to differ.
What inspires me to write another blog? For starters, I posted a simple message on their (BizNik) forum there called Biz Talk. It was titled - "Taking What You Know" - and after a few days of the normal BizNik traffic, it has received 103 views at the time I'm currently writing this first blog here. This gets me thinking, as I asked the simple question really of "How do you take what you know how to do, and love to do - and turn it into a small business/or job?" I had a 103 views, but it seems like allot of people are either 1. Curious like me and would also like an answer; or 2. Had no opinion and love to follow a new trend, ie.. peak at the most viewed posting because it might have something interesting to say. It really didn't. Go figure, I really was wanting some sort of answer, opinions, inquiries, etc..
I did receive one concise answer. That of course was from the co-founder of BizNik - Dan McComb. He said that maybe I should try writing again in a blog about the IT field/bizness. A few years back I wrote a weekly article for an EZine like web site dedicated to the local music scene. I have done the deadline grind before, and it was fun while it lasted. To make a long story short, basically I mulled this over for a day or so, and while running into some learning curve issues on a project I'm working on currently, I figured I may as well give it a go. Let's be honest here - the statement should have been - "While running into a project that hasn't quite gotten started yet!"
What is this project you may ask?
I ran this idea by a fellow BizNik person who actually introduced me and invited me to join BizNik in the first place. His name is Scot Duke. He is great guy I met over on another social network called Tribe.net, and he has his own business going called - Business Golf. His site is Innovative Business Golf. If you are into playing golf, as well as doing business while playing golf, or even playing more golf and getting business done - check his site and his book out.
What is this project? Let's get back to the question at hand. Well I'm working on something for personal use, and I'm putting it into a Flash 8 format/project. I think it will be nice when it's done, and I have seen some examples on the web. I found one example that was exactly what I was looking for. The only problem, it was generic, bland, and had no "umph" to it.
Being a musician also, let's back up for a second. Being a person that can somewhat play stringed instrument's and who has also written material as well as co-wrote material with bands, I have tons of my own music. I mean, don't you hate the canned Flash music? The stuff that sounds like "Gee, I've heard that 1000 times before??!?!?" stuff. It's sometime so bad, you can hear the stuff on the very generic hold music you get when you are calling a company and they put you on hold. It's so bad, so generic sounding, so blah, so ???? Well you get the idea.
Well it's been quite awhile since I worked in Flash. The last time I did a web site in Flash was back when Flash was still on version 5! Yes, it's been that long. I figured it out once by trial and error, but it seems as you get older, the more you learn, the more time it takes to re-learn it! I was in fact suppose to work on it some again this evening. I of course sat down here, and basically did - NOT.
One thing I did get done tonight is get this blog started. Thanks Dan, and Scot for inspiring me to write something again. I know this first post is shaky at best, but you have to start somewhere, right?
Bottom line for post #1 in this blog, it just barely made it here, well at least... Technically Speaking.

That's awesome - let me know how I can help to get it in the calendar.
Best,
